Damen notches up the orders

Damen Shipyards is reinforcing its reputation as a major global supplier of tugs and workboats with the reporting of orders for three vessels in recent weeks.

Tidewater returns to Damen with an order for two Stan Tugs 2309s (Damen)

The Multi Cat workboat range will receive a new addition with the inking of an order for a 3313 SD variant for Dutch maritime services company ST Marine Support.

Scheduled for delivery in March 2023 the vessel will be built at Safe Shipyard in Gdansk before being moved to Damen’s facility at Hardinxveld, the Netherlands for completion.

Specifically designed for shallow water dredging duties it will be capable of operating in water depths of just 2m and equipped with substantial deck cranes fore and aft; anchor-handling, towing and tugger winches, and a 40t A-frame. Three fixed-pitch propellers will deliver 25tbp and speed 10kn and the new addition will join two Multi Cat 3013s and one 3515 variant in ST Marine Support’s fleet, the client stating: “it was not a difficult decision to return to them once again.”

Reflecting Damen’s global reach, Tidewater is a longstanding customer operating over 25 Damen vessels and the Texas, USA-based offshore vessel owner is extending that relationship with an order for two Stan Tug 2309s for chartering to a long standing customer.

The pair will be built at Damen Albwardy Sharjah and with artist’s impressions indicating line-handling duties, mooring is in their list of duties which includes towing and additional firefighting capabilities along with extra platforms and capstans aft “for safe and efficient hose maintenance on deck”.

The tugs will offer 40tbp and approximately 45m² of deck space and as with the ST Marine Multi Cat are scheduled for delivery in Q1 2023 with Piers Middleton, vice president, sales and marketing for Tidewater saying: “We are very excited to not only be returning to Damen to build the latest and most efficient tugs in the marketplace today, but also to be able to continue to support our longstanding partners and stakeholders by committing to building new vessels to support their ongoing operations.”
