54 North Maritime Training has been heavily involved in the Maritime Industry for over 13 years, training apprentices and adults into maritime careers. She has raised the profile of the company UK wide, working strategically at all levels, from routine to ministerial level.
Working closely with the MCA, the Maritime Skills Alliance, National Workboat Association and Trinity House, to name but a few, she is recognised for the establishment of excellence in maritime safety training, initially in the fishing industry, and latterly in the workboat industry. 54 North Maritime Training, under Anne’s guidance, has received many quality and excellence awards. The company considers safety training is paramount, and has an outstanding safety record. Anne’s introduction of a robust safety training programme has resulted, to date, in no major accidents or deaths for anyone trained by the company.
Currently, 54 North Maritime Training are the only UK training provider successfully delivering the new Workboat Apprenticeship. During 2012 Anne achieved a Degree in Leadership and Management.
In 2013 she became a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute. Anne was thrilled to be awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honour’s list in June 2014, for Services to Education.”
Benjamin Metcalfe

Sarah Taylor, who works at Landau UK, nominated Ben and comments, “As a recently appointed member of the National Boat Shows Board and Vice Chairman of BMF South, Ben Metcalfe, Founder and MD of Landau UK; the leading marine retro-fit specialists continues to expand the business from an initial one-man band into a full service 24-strong team.
Having launched from humble beginnings into the leisure marine market back in 1996, Metcalfe’s passion and commitment within the maritime industry has been the main influencer of Landau’s growth into the commercial marine market over the last five years.
Ben has successfully established strong commercial relationships, working with the likes of Babcock, UK Docks, Shell, BP, the MOD and other similar maritime partners. Bringing the quality and end finish requirements together with the reliability and longevity required of the commercial industry, Metcalfe has reinforced the Landau brand to its team, ensuring the customer is always put first, ensuring standards are retained and kept high.
Ben has won numerous awards during his career, including the Boating Business Entrepreneur of the Year, as well as taking Landau UK to be BMEEA Dealer of the Year Award for two years running and MTA Retailer of the Year in 2014.”
Dr Trevor Dobbins, Technical Director, STR Research Ltd & 20 Knots Plus – Seawork stand A267 
Jonathan Hill, Director of Training at 20 Knots Plus nominated Trevor for the award. He said, “Dr Trevor Dobbins is the leading expert in Human Factors on high-speed craft and has been consulted by industry leaders and governments alike to improve Human Factors Integration (HFI) and operational capability through improved human performance.
He has dedicated himself to reducing the frequency and severity of acute & chronic injury from Repeated Shock (RS) & Whole Body Vibration (WBV) on high-speed craft through logging of craft impacts and severity, suspension seat testing, fatigue testing all of which has resulted in the development of the only RS & WBV Awareness Training available to the marine industry.
He has been instrumental in the development of the first marine exoskeleton to reduce the extreme effects of high-speed craft operation and anatomical correct digital human models (DHMs) for use by designers.
Dr Trevor Dobbins received the Seawork Innovation Award for his work in 2008 for the “High Speed Craft Human Factors Engineering Design Guide” aimed at helping engineers and users a like to improve the HFE of high-speed craft.”

Dave Walters, who works with Peter at PME Power Systems Group in Plymouth, comments, “With 35 years’ experience under his belt and earning a reputation for his technical knowledge, Pete (The Oracle!) is a larger than life character and icon in the industry. After apprenticeship and training with MAN he became a highly successful engineer who has gone on to create a company that follows his ideals and philosophy of development.
His company PME Power Systems Group Ltd has gone from strength to strength with a friendly and dedicated work force which is expanding rapidly. The recession’s impact on the marine industry has seen Pete using his innovation to trial new ventures expanding into military craft (land and sea) and farm machinery.
Alongside the established business support to wind farm vessels and Princess and Sunseeker boat builders are now seeing a resurgence. Never one to sit on his laurels Pete; at the helm of PME, will announce his new market venture at Seawork 2015 and a new service partnership with ZF Marine.
Pete’s encouragement of his team through personal development, training and total involvement is reflected in the flexibility provided to customers and hence customer satisfaction. Reinvestment of profits by Pete into premises, equipment, two new engineers and three new apprentices in 2015 alone; shows his passion for the industry going forward.”
