Even bigger for Boskalis?
Royal Boskalis Westminster has just announced that it has started investigating the potential for a new ultra large V-Class Heavy Transport Vessel (HTV).
This is surprising considering it already claims the world’s largest V-Class semisubmersible: the Dockwise Vanguard – which only came into service early 2013 – has a carrying capacity of 117,000 tonnes and a deck space of 270m by 70m. Compared to the Vanguard, the new vessel will be larger in terms of length, breadth and carrying capacity but will also have a bowless design and asymmetric accommodation.
It seems that its success has spurred on the company: Peter Berdowski, CEO of Boskalis says the company’s decision to start this study is a reflection of how well the Vanguard has been received “and we see many more exciting opportunities”.
The study will addresses both the market opportunities and the technical requirements: Boskalis is to engage with clients to understand how this vessel can be tailored to the lift of outsize marine structures as well as the growing FPSO and FLNG markets.
