First offshore provider takes HELM O course

The three-day course, delivered in a classroom setting by Master Mariner Mike Jubb, is designed to meet mandatory training requirements and equip trainees with the necessary awareness and understanding of the human factors influencing resource management.

“All delegates were interacting fully on the course,” said Mr Jubb. “Alongside the main learning objectives, many also benefited from discussions on their various relevant experiences.

“The course cannot change human behaviour, but it can ensure it is understood and accounted for when decisions are made. I consider it highly beneficial for anyone who wants to further their training or needs to meet these mandatory requirements.”

Syllabus

Topics covered include cultural and situational awareness, shipboard training, assessing and developing human management, teamwork and leadership behaviours.

Trainees will also learn situation and risk assessment, managing workload including the operation of the ship to care for individuals on board and resource management techniques.

The HELM O course will run from 25-27 March 2019, while HELM M is taking place from 14-18 January and 8-12 April. Courses are delivered from Modal Training’s Immingham centre in the UK.

Mr Jubb has over 35 years of experience providing advice, services and training to the offshore, renewable, shipping and port industries.
