Maritas to offer HELM (O)
UK based marine training provider Maritas have announced at Seawork 2014 that they have received MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) approval to offer the three day course in Human Element Leadership and Management (Operational).
The course is designed to meet the mandatory requirements for training in the human element, leadership and management at the operational level as set out in Regulations II and III of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW). It provides students with awareness and understanding of the key human factors influencing effective resource management.
According to Maritas’ managing director Damian Crowley; “The HELM(O) qualification is increasingly becoming a requirement for crew from Officer of the Watch to Senior Officer level, and the skills covered are equally applicable to deck, engineering or electro-technical personnel. Maritas offer flexibility to our students in that we take our courses to them; we have a pool of a dozen freelance trainers all over the UK, so we can offer training wherever customers want it.”
