Safebridge launches officers ECDIS training course

The ECDIS Basics course covers the lack of knowledge in general navigation with an objective to impart practical hands-on knowledge about the most common features and functionality of ECDIS, including a sound knowledge of its strengths and weaknesses.

Based on the book “ECDIS Basics” written by Professor Ralph Becker-Heins, the course has been designed for a web-based learning environment.

Flexible training

The course is divided into seven modules and starts from a basic ECDIS overview to familiarisation with international and national requirements, course participants will become acquainted with the objectives of each module by following the units.

Every unit is subdivided into the topics illustrated with animation and video. The user may strengthen his/her understanding by completing the quiz after each module. At the very end of the course, the student can take the online self-assessment in order to obtain a certificate of completion for the course.

Professor Ralph Becker-Heins is a Professor of Navigation at the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen and has been appointed Honorary Professor of Navigation at the Kherson State Maritime Institute.
