Tracking people aboard
A live demo of the Monalisa 2.0 project in Milan in June was attended by safety and technical management of Carnival Group, the largest cruise company in the world, and by the Naval Armaments Directorate of the Italian ministry of defence.
Martec, a partner of the Monalisa 2.0 project, demonstrated a test installation on the cruise ship Ruby Princess connected in realtime from Alaska. The People Tracking System ensures a quick response to ship emergencies in terms of rapid automatic detection of crew presence in sensitive areas.
“The Italian Navy is significantly inclined to advanced technologies, especially if they are nationally and internationally recognized as an excellence” said admiral Pellegrino, talking about installations used on board of their ship units to ensure crew safety.
Monalisa 2.0 is a European-wide sea traffic monitoring project that includes 39 partners from 10 countries. The partnership has a favourable balance between the private, public and academia sectors. It is co-financed by the European Union.
The total budget is EUR 24 million. It was formally approved and signed on November 5, 2013 and will be completed by the end of 2015.
