One-stop offshore maintenance concept launches

A Scandinavian co-op between technical lead, ProCon Wind Energy, and IWS Fleet and IWS Services has developed the new concept which features customised hybrid vessels fitted with a new gangway system along with a team of specialised technicians.

“This new concept, jointly developed by three leading offshore specialists over the past 18 months, will be the first in the industry to offer all necessary competencies inhouse, from the sophisticated, custom-built ships, to the full taskforce of skilled technicians, through to project management,” said Thomas Padfield, head of strategic business development, ProCon.

With traditional O&M concepts, an average of ten sub-suppliers are involved in each operation, a complexity that is reduced in the new one-stop concept. “Considerable cost savings are possible, through our efficient handling of the many suppliers operating in widely different technical segments,” continued Padfield.

Industry firsts and zero emissions

Capable of zero-emission operation, the hybrid vessels have several reported industry firsts, including the largest battery pack with a capacity of 2200 kWh and additional photovoltaic charging.

The hull and propulsion design has been optimised to give an estimated 20% reduction in emissions compared with similar vessels. With accommodation for 120 technicians, a further first is the vessels’ ‘DNV SILENT’ notification which certifies that the vessel’s impact on marine life has been minimised.

The new concept will be exhibited on Integrated Wind Solutions’ stand E-D50 at WindEurope on 25 – 27 April. The first contract is expected to be signed this year.
