Fugro launches training centre
Dutch survey conglomerate Fugro has launched a new UK marine training centre to address the development needs of its operational staff.
Located on Helford River in Cornwall with ready access to Falmouth Bay and the English Channel, quayside facilities include classrooms, offices and a workshop.
The first scheduled course is the company’s new 12 week Survey & Engineering Training programme for offshore survey recruits under the auspices of its educational Academy. It provides a mix of classroom based training and hands-on field experience using the centre’s two 9m inshore survey vessels with the aim of giving delegates confidence and competence in the use of the company’s systems prior to initial offshore deployment as fully trained junior members of survey teams.
Andrew McNeill, Fugro’s global talent development manager, says a further four 12-week courses are planned for this year, involving around 70 surveyors and survey engineers. Other plans include further investment in teaching personnel, equipment and facilities as well as an expansion of training courses to meet all divisional requirements of the Fugro group, which presently employs approximately 12,500 staff in over 60 countries.
