New book explores autonomous challenges
A newly published book explores the operational, regulatory and quality assurance challenges for autonomous shipping.
‘Towards the Autonomous Ship: Operational, Regulatory, Quality Challenges’ has been written by Captain Aristotelis Komianos, an associate fellow of the Nautical Institute.
The book is a study of existing relevant projects and looks at the challenges around the development and actual deployment of autonomous vessels in the near future.
It considers multiple possible solutions and approaches to overcoming identified challenges and presents conclusions which may be used for both autonomous ships and traditionally manned vessels.
Captain Komianos is a former naval officer with seagoing experience up to the duties of commanding officer and a master mariner.
He holds an MSc in Shipping and an MBA in human resources management. His research interests include innovation in shipping, environmental protection, maritime safety and cyber security.
