Cadeler to install 60 wind turbines
Offshore wind specialist Cadeler has signed a contract with Siemens Gamesa to transport and install 60 offshore wind turbines (WTG) at the Moray West wind farm off the coast of Scotland.
This will be the first commercial scale installation for the 14MW Siemens Gamesa SG 14-222 DD WTGs.
Cadeler will use its wind farm installation vessel, Wind Orca, for the work, which is set to start in early 2024 following a large crane upgrade for the vessel. The new crane will have a lifting capacity of 1,600 tonnes at a radius of 40 metres and a hook height of 160 metres above the main deck.
“This is a very exciting project for Cadeler, where our experienced team and industry leading assets will support Siemens Gamesa to install this landmark project on time and budget,” said Mikkel Gleerup, chief executive of Cadeler.
Bjoern de Sousa, head of offshore execution at Siemens Gamesa, added that the companies had worked closely together for many years. “We are confident that Cadeler will deliver the advanced technology and the know-how needed to safely and successfully install our SG 14-222 DD offshore wind turbines at Moray West,” he said.
The Moray West offshore wind farm will be installed in the outer Moray Firth, 22km off the coast of Scotland.
They will be pre-assembled and shipped from the Port of Nigg in the Cromarty Firth, Scotland.
