Maritime Journal throws down the cardboard gauntlet
Maritime Journal, Europe’s foremost commercial marine industry B2B magazine, has announced that it will be entering a vessel into the Seawork International Cardboard Boat Regatta on the 4th of July and is challenging all comers to compete against it.
Jake Frith, Editor of Maritime Journal and Project Manager for the high tech build was keeping the design details closely under wraps: “The first challenge here is that we have allowed ourselves just two hours to complete the build from start to finish (excluding hat fabrication). There will certainly be a frenzy of scissors, parcel tape and cardboard at Spinnaker House one afternoon in late June. In order to achieve this somewhat optimistic target, we have a few time saving tricks up our sleeve, all of which are set to induce gasps (or something) from the assembled crowd when we present our proud ship to the world.
“In an early crew related tip-off, I can also share the exciting news that part of our vessel’s paddling power is likely to be provided by former Waterski Champion Dave Perratt, who is rumoured to possess the upper body strength of a young chimpanzee.”
The charity Atlantic Pacific International Rescue Boat Project are managing the Cardboard Boat Regatta, they are a not-for-profit NGO with a simple purpose: to provide lifeboats where there are none. All Seawork exhibitors will receive one ticket to the Regatta, Waterfront Saloon, Live Music and American themed Bar & Cookout in their Welcome Pack. Additional tickets (which include food) can be purchased for £10.
Frith concluded: “While the MJ team will of course offer a good race to anyone who dares line up against us on the day, we particularly look forward to humiliating any of our valued clients who are also exhibiting at Seawork.” The Seawork 4 th of July celebration takes place on Wednesday 4th July from 5pm – 8pm.
