15m workboat for wide-ranging roles
A UK wildlife charity has recently taken delivery of a clever workboat with configurable deck space for moving livestock, equipment and people with equal efficiency.
Pembroke Dock-based marine engineers and workboat designers and builders Mainstay Marine Solutions has delivered what it calls a 15m ‘livestock Cot boat’ for the purposes of habitat maintenance for RSPB Northern Ireland.
Designed and built by Mainstay, the 14te vessel will transport livestock, machinery, equipment and people in and around the islands of Lough Erne in Northern Ireland. Its deck space can be easily reconfigured dependent on the cargo it is carrying and can be dismantled into smaller sections for ease of road transportation, when required.
Stewart Graves commented ‘’We are delighted to have won this contract. Our design team worked closely with the client to ensure that the vessel met their exacting requirements around its reconfigurable deck arrangement whilst maintaining its simplicity for ease of use. We know the vessel will serve the communities well for years to come”.
The new cot was acquired through the Co-operation Across Borders for Biodiversity (CABB) project, which receives financial support from the EU’s INTERREG VA Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
