40ft survey catamaran

The T. Burke II is 12m LOA high bow buoyancy symmetrical hulled catamaran with a 4.6m beam and a 14,200kg displacement. Powered by a pair of Barrus UK supplied Yanmar 450hp diesel engines she has a 26kts max speed and an 18kts operational speed.

She will be used for coastal surveying around Irish waters and as such is fitted with a HIAB crane, hydraulic tilting ‘A’ frame and deck winch for deployment of sonar equipment and a bottom sampling dredge.

The arrangement of the vessel allows for a spacious aft deck and a large main cabin with a hydrographic station workbench, dinette seating and galley, two berths a wet room and heads compartment, allowing for extended operations and transits around the Irish coastline.

A full comprehensive array of navigation equipment is provided at a central helm position with navigator’s station alongside and provides a very comfortable and efficient crew environment. Safehaven’s Wildcat 40 has proved very successful with 19 craft in service worldwide, and has a great reputation for its seakeeping abilities, nicely demonstrated during rough weather trials off the South Coats of Cork recently during storm ‘Gareth’ in 50kt winds and 5m seas as seen in the photo.

T. Burke II was christened in April and entered service shortly after, eagerly anticipated by her crew who were closely involved during her construction, as she will greatly increase their operational working envelope.
