Astilleros Gondán SOVs complete
Astilleros Gondán has completed two new Service Operation Vessels (SOV) and delivered the first to owner Østensjø Rederi for use at Race Bank wind farm, off the coast of the UK.
Designed by Rolls Royce Marine and built at Astilleros Gondán’s shipyard in Spain, Edda Passat and sister vessel Edda Mistral, which will be used at Ørsted’s Hornsea Project One wind farm, are approximately 81m long with a 17m beam and have the capacity to accommodate a crew of about 20 people and up to 40 technicians, who will perform wind farm maintenance tasks.
Both vessels are equipped with an UPTIME 23m long heave compensated ‘walk-to-work’ gangway, a 3D compensated crane and a CTV landing system with bunkering facility.
H&S-optimised
In addition to the gangway, the onboard-fitted 11m daughter craft will allow the safe transfer of maintenance technicians to the offshore wind turbines.
In February, Edda Passat undertook sea trials at the Port of Gijón.
Edda Mistral is due to be delivered in August.
Hornsea Project One off the Yorkshire coast in the UK will span approximately 407 sq km and use 190m tall 7MW wind turbines.
Race Bank off the coast of Norfolk, UK, has a potential maximum capacity of 580MW and could generate enough electricity to power over 500,000 UK homes annually.
