Second offshore wind Ro-Ro cargo vessel for Siemens

Both vessels have been purpose-built for Siemens Gamesa to support the growing demands of its customers in the offshore wind industry.

Bigger and better

Delivered on 30 March at Zhenjiang Shipyards in China, the Rotra Futura is the latest addition to the successful Rotra vessel concept. Her sister vessel, Rotra Horizon, launched just days later and is expected for delivery in July 2025.

The vessels are quipped with a ro-ro ramp, three Liebherr cranes and a unique gantry system, which allows the stowage of blades in three tiers to provide flexibility in cargo composition, loading method and component mix.

Both vessels accommodate larger components while reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions thanks to an optimised hull shape, a low-drag coating and a Wärtsilä engine consuming 15% less fuel than comparable vessels.

They also feature hybrid propulsion and exhaust gas cleaning meeting IMO Tier 3 standards, with waste heat recovery.
