New Multi Cat for Briggs Marine
UK-headquartered offshore services provider Briggs Marine and Environmental Services is adding to its fleet of multipurpose vessels with the ordering of a Damen Multi Cat 2712.
Fife-based Briggs Marine offers an interesting range of marine services including: vessel charter; diving and salvage services; renewable energy support; and emergency response and consultancy services. An indication of the diverse nature of its activities was the awarding in 2012 of a seven year contract from Transport for London for operation and maintenance of the Woolwich Ferry on the river Thames.
The core of Briggs Marine’s activities is however providing marine support services and this latest addition, to be named Forth Warrior will join two other Damen vessels in the fleet, the Multi Cat 2611 Forth Jouster and 62m anchor-handler Kingdom of Fife. Since its delivery the latter has been working on a £100m contract providing maintenance and mooring support to the Royal Navy.
Damen’s Multi Cat range are known for their versatility and the 27m Forth Warrior (the largest in the Multi Cat range) will be capable of involvement in multiple activities including windfarm support. Features of interest include DP1 capability and a four-point mooring system with removable winches each holding 320m of wire. Safety and efficiency is enhanced with 360’ visibility from the wheelhouse which as standard is offset allowing maximum availability of deck space. Shallow draught will allow operations close to shore.
Graham Gray, Operations Director of Marine Assets at Briggs Marine said: “Briggs has a reputation for delivering high quality, cost effective marine solutions in diverse challenging environments on time and in budget. Therefore it is important to have a highly versatile fleet that can provide a wide range of services with excellent utilisation. The last few years have seen an uplift in business, especially in the growing offshore renewables market, and Briggs believes that investing in its expertise and marine assets will provide an ongoing reliable service to this growing and expanding industry.” It is hoped to report on the Forth Warrior in more detail in a future Tugs & Towing column once the vessel enters service.
