ROVs are now being used to look inside drinking water tanks without emptying them.
Large potable water tanks such as those used on offshore platforms need regular inspections to check for contamination, biofilm deposits, corrosion formation and the growth of Legionella.
While it usually means subjecting these tanks to complete draining and refilling – a process that could take up to three days - Intertek is now offering a new mini ROV service which enables the tanks to get back in service after 12 hours.
The ROV inspection is detailed enough to provide the basis for treatment recommendations, including operational advice, cleaning, patch recoating or complete tank refurbishment.
