Sister dredger delivered 32 years later
Damen Dredging Equipment has handed the cutter suction dredger Susanna II over to its owner, dredging contractor Verboon Maasland.
All members of the Verboon team were present with their families to celebrate the completion of the vessel.
The Susanna II is the second stationary dredger for Verboon Maasland. The first one, named Susanna, was also built by Damen Dredging some 32 years ago.
The new dismountable dredger is a copy of the first one but updated with 21st century outfitting. The small cutter suction dredgers are provided with an Ø250 mm discharge pipeline and are fitted out with a swing ladder for dredging to a maximum depth of 6m. The divisible swing ladder has a total length of 18m, which results in the impressive swing width of 28m. Susanna II is equipped with a spud carriage installation with a 2m stroke and spuds which can work both on land and afloat.
The main pontoon contains the engine room with, a 254 kW Caterpillar diesel engine of type C12TA powering the Damen dredge pump of type BP2525MD. The generator set and the hydraulic are also located in the engine room.
The ergonomically designed control cabin has excellent view on the foredeck and swing ladder. The control cabin is dividable, keeping the maximum height of the full dredger under 1.5m for swift bridge passages. This requirement is imperative due to the many small scale dredging jobs which will involve low bridge clearances. For this treason, the spuds can also be tilted. For transportation, the modularly designed dredger separates into a main pontoon, four side pontoons, the control cabin, the spuds and the divided cutter ladder, which all are transportable by road.
After the party Susanna II has started on its first job, cleaning the Westfriesche Vaart near Medemblik in the Netherlands, working alongside its sister vessel.
