SOCOTEC testing for AHEP

New facilities and infrastructure will be created in Nigg Bay, located to the south of the existing harbour. To accommodate the development, road re-alignment, parking and means of access for the harbour, SOCOTEC will undertake compaction and compliance testing for bulk earthworks, concrete, soils and aggregates to assess the quality and in situ behaviour of the imported materials.

David Anderson, regional operations director, infrastructure & energy at SOCOTEC, stated that “AHEP will benefit from directing several aspects of their testing requirements through just one point of contact, seeing greater efficiencies at the reduced cost of using a single service provider. Plus, with the ability to set up under the UKAS flexible scope accreditation* for materials testing, our test results can be issued with UKAS certification upon implementation of our own quality system, demonstrating all of our processes and procedures are quality assured.”

Mobile lab

A mobile laboratory will be set-up onsite to offer quick results for the project, with further support offered at SOCOTEC’s materials testing laboratory in Scotland.

All results will be reported to the regulatory body, Marine Scotland, to ensure that AHEP adheres to environmental regulations through monitoring and minimising any pollution impact.

SOCOTEC is also providing a second phase of ground investigation works – which follows a total of 36 boreholes completed throughout 2017. The company will be undertaking cable percussion boring followed on by rotary openhole drilling and rotary coring.
