Dr Phil Thompson has held various senior appointments in BMT since joining in 1992. Previously, Phil was a Professor at the Dept. of Ocean Engineering at Virginia Tech in the USA. Phil has led developments in advanced traffic modelling and ship navigation simulation, ship digital forensics and incident reconstruction, synthetic modelling and AI enabled navigation. Many of these tools have been adopted by commercial fleet and port operators and pilots, as well as the major statutory maritime agencies worldwide.
