Towlines
Smit have sold the tractor tug Banjaardsbank from their harbour tug fleet in Rotterdam. The tug is a Voith Schneider tractor of 2600bhp and built for use in Europort in 1972. Banjaardsbank has gone to a towage company in Tromso, Norway.
The port of Great Yarmouth has finally ceased to provide its own towage services and sold the tug Hector Read to a private individual. A well-known little vessel of 19.81m, built by JS Doig of Grimsby in 1965, the tug is powered by a 590bhp Ruston diesel. Towage services at the Norfolk port are now provided by Felixarc Marine Services Ltd under a new three year contract.
Damen Shipbuilders of Gorinchem has completed the compact azimuthing stern drive tug Aros for the Arhus Haven port authority in Denmark. A vessel of 28.68m in length, with a beam of 10.43m, the tug is powered by two Caterpillar 3516B TA HD/B main engines rated at 4750bhp (total) at 1550rev/min. Power is transmitted to a pair of Rolls Royce US255 fully azimuthing thrusters to give the vessel a bollard pull ahead of 55 tonnes and 51.2 tonnes astern. A 230kW hydraulically powered bow thruster enhances further the performance of this compact and agile shiphandling vessel.
Point Spencer, a shiphandling and coastal tug from the Clyde fleet of Svitzer-Wijsmuller has been sold for use in the Netherlands. Originally built for use as a terminal tug in Canada, in 1972, the 2640bhp single screw tug has a bollard pull of 40 tonnes. The new owners are Rederij Noordgat of Terschelling.
