Dutch shipyard wins 13 navy vessels contract

The vessels will replace the current fleet of Fast Raiding Interception and Special Forces Craft (FRISCs).

Rotterdam-based De Haas builds patrol, incident response or survey vessels, tugs, fire-fighting boats, crew transfer and Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) at two sites in the Dutch port.

It also has two Marine Travelifts with a maximum capacity of 820 tons.

The new FFIs will have a number of features that the existing FRISCs don’t have, such as an improved sensor and communication system and better shock absorption.

“They are more modern, faster and more heavily armed than their predecessors,” says the shipyard. “They are also less easy to detect and there is a focus on reducing the physical strain on staff. The hard shocks at speed in combination with high waves will be better mitigated.”
