Europe’s first electro-H2 cat on track for 2025 launch

The catamaran is being built at Green Navy’s Merré shipyard in Nort-sur-Erdre, with its twin hulls assembled at Chaudronnerie Industrielle De Bretagne in Brest.

Prometeo features carbon-free, silent, and odour-free operation, says Green Navy, and its electro-hydrogen propulsion system is cleaner and quieter than traditional fossil fuels, aligning with global goals for sustainable transport.

“The launch is scheduled for Spring 2025, and discussions with potential operators are ongoing,” it says.

CEO Charles Cardi says the company plans to provide a turnkey solution for owners and operators without the risks associated with partner selection, design security, and administrative steps.

“Green Navy is tailoring energy solutions to balance battery capacity and hydrogen storage, optimizing efficiency and cost-effectiveness,” Cardi says.

As the maritime industry increasingly seeks new propulsion options, Green Navy says it has demonstrated at a few conferences how hydrogen storage can be achieved and fuel cells used

“These technologies offer robust safety features, and Green Navy collaborates closely with French maritime authorities and certification bodies like Bureau Veritas,” says Cardi.

Several French regions, including Bretagne and Région Sud, are investing in hydrogen technology as part of their decarbonization efforts.
