EvoLogics BOSS Manta Ray - the stunningly lifelike subsea robot for automated monitoring
EvoLogics GmbH (Berlin, Germany) is proud to present the BOSS Manta Ray, a novel bionic vehicle the company has been developing since 2013 as part of the Bionic Observation and Survey System (BOSS) project.
BOSS is a joint research effort, supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). Coordinated by EvoLogics, project partners are the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule Lübeck) and Sea & Sun Technology GmbH.
By combining innovative bionic concepts with modern marine technologies, BOSS collaborators aim to create a powerful and flexible underwater exploration and monitoring system, particularly suitable to access hard-to-reach or yet unexplored areas with its unique functional properties.
Deployed in the target area for observation and survey, the BOSS system is a self-coordinating swarm of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), all linked into a multimedia sensor network with latest communication and navigation technologies. Carrying a payload of instruments, the AUV swarm would sweep the target area, collect various data about the subsea environment and provide a wireless link to the base station for real-time monitoring.
