Electric patrol boats
The City of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Police have taken delivery of three new electric patrol boats, with a further two under construction.
Damen Shipyards Group handed over the three new vessels, all of which are fitted with EST-Floattech battery packs. The fully-electric Waterpieper and Waterhoen will be operated by the City of Amsterdam and are each outfitted with a battery pack of 273kWh. The hybrid P55 will be operated by the Amsterdam Police and is fitted with a 136,5kWh battery pack plus diesel generator.
“It was a tough puzzle to get 273kWh of batteries on board the 13.5 metre patrol boat, but the flexible modular system of EST-Floattech enables this in a very space-efficient way,” said Koen Boerdijk of EST-Floattech.
With its 130kW electric motor, the 1304 Damen design can reach speeds of 8.6 knots. Sailing at average speed will allow a full-day’s operation on a single charge.
In 2023 Damen will deliver a further two patrol boats of the 1304 full electric series. These will also be equipped with the Green Orca 1050 series battery pack of 273kWh each.
“We’re very happy with the cooperation we have with EST-Floattech,” said Roel Foolen of Damen. “They will come on board again on our newbuilds which will be delivered in 2023,” he added.
