Jan De Nul announces record turnover for 2022

The firm, whose dredging activities account for 81% of total turnover for the group, says its order book grew by 29%, standing at €4.6 billion at the end of 2021 to reach €6.45 billion by the end of last year, with an EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortisation) of €440 million.

The company is certainly global: key projects have been undertaken in locations as far apart as Bangladesh, Ecuador and Italy.

Jan De Nul is also very active in the offshore wind industry, and has been involved in the construction of farms in Taiwan, France, and the Netherlands. These works entail cable laying, installing wind turbine generator foundations and rock installation works, as well as installing and protecting submarine cables that connect the transformer stations of the offshore farms with the onshore electricity grid.

Two offshore installation vessels, heavy lift crane vessel Les Alizés and Voltaire, a jack-up vessel, have been delivered and are on their way to new projects, the firm says, Les Alizés to offshore wind farms Borkum Riffgrund 3 and Godewind 3 in the German North Sea, andVoltaire to Dogger Bank in the UK North Sea. Two water injection dredgers, Pancho and Cosette, were also delivered in 2022.

In a press statement, the company said: ”2022 will remain earmarked in history as the year of the armed conflict in Ukraine. It was the onset of major global unrest with an immediate, devastating economic impact. Skyrocketing energy prices and galloping double-digit inflation had and still have an impact on the cost levels of our ongoing projects and tenders.

”Despite this continuous uncertainty, 2022 fulfilled our expectations. Thanks to our operational management and supported by a well-stocked order book, we were able to achieve strong results.”
