Kinetic moves propulsion control forward
Workboat operators considering newbuilds or refits will be interested in the new Kinetik propulsion control system which has been launched by Surrey UK based RCS.
Kinetik is aimed at the small to medium size workboat market and is compatible with both electronic and mechanical engines and gearboxes. It delivers Radamec’s most compact and affordable package to date.
The advantages of electronic control systems are well known, including a host of inbuilt safety features and greater refinement of throttle control over traditional mechanical systems. Kinetik’s affordability opens up these benefits to a wider range of boat sizes and types. It includes user configurable options which allow the units to be configured to suit specific vessels and their type of operation.
The precision and accuracy offered by Kinetik will give confidence to the skipper during often tricky manoeuvres.
Safety has been carefully considered through intelligent station control transfer operations, whilst smooth engine control reduces wear and tear on the gearbox by avoiding abrupt engine changes or over-revving during clutch operations.
The range consists of Kinetik Blue (fixed pitch) and Kinetik Red (variable pitch), providing the option of controlling the throttle, gearbox and pitch electronically or electro-mechanically with a choice of linear actuators.
At the heart of the system is a discreet and easily installed controller measuring just 172mm x 167mm x 55mm and weighing less than 1kg. Each controller has connections for up to three control stations and either one or two engines depending on the vessel type.
Minimal disruption during installation is guaranteed by using a plug and play approach and requiring the minimum of new wiring.
Kinetik, when combined with Radamec’s professional control heads, offers a complete solution for workboats of all sizes.
