Four engine workboat contract in Nigeria
DF Coulam & Sons have landed a contract to supply two 2,500 hp handed 16 cylinder engines to a client in Nigeria which will replace two damaged engines onboard a tug/service vessel. The engines were built using reconditioned parts, and to the clients own specification, as replacements for engines supplied in the 1970’ s
The same client has ordered two 1,200 hp engines for another vessel, again to replace worn units, which are now undergoing testing in the company’s works.
DF Coulam is also carrying out a complete in-house overhaul for Cantieri Mediterraneo on a fleet tender engine of 330 bhp. The vessel is being completely stripped for conversion into a charter yacht. The engine will be installed by the yard and commissioned in Naples.
DF Coulam & Sons was established in 1982 with the specific aim of supplying the aftermarket of the Mirrlees Blackstone E series diesel engines. From their 20,000 sq/ft workshop in Market Deeping, the company buys in top quality used engines and generators from all over the globe, reaching as far afield as Australia and Tonga. The engines are used as the basis for producing first class reconditioned spares as well as complete engines, which are used for power generation and marine propulsion. Lloyds survey is generally available.
The company has built more than 40 such complete engines, ranging from the small four cylinder engines used in fleet tenders up to 16 cylinder 2,500 hp units used for rig support vessels. Many engines have been supplied as replacement units where the original had been damaged and a identical unit was required to match the original installation. The company has even supplied engines for newbuild fishing vessels in Thailand, where Sirichai Fishing Company is a client providing repeat business.
