Pay as you sail EBCs
Navigational chart distributor Datema Delfzijl in Holland has launched a new ‘ pay as you sail’ ENC distribution system, ENCtrack, that for the first time will allow users to pay for chart licences starting from the time their vessels enter chart coverage areas, and not from the time that cells are opened for voyage planning.
Ships carrying the system will have all globally available ENCs and relevant permits provided by the Primar network installed in advance, with specific ones only being registered and charged for by ENCtrack when actually used within coverage areas.
Using the Iridium communications network, ENCtrack is compatible with any ECDIS system and will enable companies to maintain their chart requirements in readiness for upcoming ECDIS carriage requirements being phased in from 2012. Datema Delfzijl, which announced its availability at the recent Norshipping exhibition in Oslo, says it has been fully tested with Dutch shipping concerns Broere Shipping and Koninklijke Wagenborg.
