Sarawak to the Netherlands
During past months an increasing number of medium sized tugs, many with anchor handling capability, have been arriving in Europe from Malaysian shipyards. A recent delivery is the Venture G, the second of a pair built for the Dutch operator Rederij Groen Offshore Guard & Support of Scheveningen by Sealink Shipyard in Miri, Sarawak, East Malaysia.
Rederij Groen were formed originally to operate fishing vessels but entered the North Sea offshore industry in 1980 to specialise in supporting seismic survey operations. The company now operates 13 vessels, some traditional fishing vessel designs but also several purpose built ships.
Venture G, delivered during the past few months, is sister ship to the Mare Verde, completed earlier. Built to a design by Conan Wu and Associates of Singapore, the tugs are 53.8m in length, with a beam of 13.8m and a moulded depth of 4.5m. The engine room is located well aft, allowing a large tank capacity forward. Tanks are provided to accommodate 913 m3 of IFO-380, 220 m3 of marine diesel and 208 m3 of fresh water. A thermal fluid heater and three cargo pumps are installed, two for the IFO-380 and one for marine diesel.
Venture G has a pair of Cummins KTA50-M2 main engines, each generating 1,700bhp at 1,800 rpm and turning four blade 2,000mm propellers via Twin Disc MG5506 reduction gearboxes with a 6:1 ratio. A transverse bow thruster rated at 5 tons is also fitted. Auxiliaries included three Caterpillar powered 245 kW 50Hz alternators and a single Cummins powered 30Kw emergency and harbour set.
Accommodation is provided for 12 crew members and up to 30 passengers.
