New ferry terminal for Port of Zadar in Croatia – by David Foxwell
The Port Authority of Zadar in Croatia and the Austrian construction group Strabag have signed a contract for Phase II of the new Gaženica ferry terminal. The contract is reportedly worth €93m and covers maritime structures, access roads and basic infrastructure of the new terminal.
The project will see the construction of 1,400m of quay wall and piers, and the contract also covers erection of an international terminal, a terminal for coastal navigation, ferry terminal and fishing terminal. It also includes the construction of approximately 2km of internal port roads and other supporting infrastructure as well as the arrangement of the terminal surfaces.
The project is being constructed in three phases, Phase 1 of which includes land reclamation, dredging and construction of a 270m secondary breakwater. On completion in 2013, the facility will have 12 berths, including three for international lines, three for ro-ro vessels and cruise ships, and six for use by Croatian ferry lines.
