Sea defence project shortlisted for Concrete Society Award

Weston-super-Mare is now benefiting from a major new sea defence scheme, which is designed to protect over 4,000 properties from flooding. Phase 2a of the project, which has been shortlisted for the award, included providing scour protection for a 900m section of sea wall that is over 120 years old.

‘Being shortlisted for this award recognises efforts of the design and project team, particularly in their attention to detail, which raises it above the ordinary, said Hamish Hall, Royal Haskoning’s project director. ‘Our engineers and site supervisors worked closely with the North Somerset Council, contractors Birse Coastal and suppliers to deliver an exceptional scheme.’

The local community have been pleased with this phase of the development, which means that the foreshore is now more accessible.
