Tugworld Review 2010 – a diverse picture

As usual, this annual review provides a useful illustration of the diverse range of tugs constructed during 2010. Bearing in mind that 2010 was seen by many as the year the recent tug building boom slowed down considerably, that is not immediately apparent in this review, as highlighted by the editor Dawn Gorman.

This 21st edition covers a wide spectrum of vessels, ranging from the little BRAtt training tug and the newly introduced 13m Damen Stan Tug to a whole new generation of high performance anchorhandling supply vessels such as the POSH ‘C series’, with 211 tons bollard pull, designed to operate in ever deeper waters. Virtually all of the now well established shiphandling designs are represented, with a variety of propulsion systems, but in this age of growing austerity, versatility is very much in the forefront.

The review is in its established A4 format and comprises well over 100 pages, including a directory section at the back. There are 34 entries covering tugs, completed by a diverse selection of shipyards from all round the world, each supported by a full colour illustration and line drawing. Where it is warranted, additional material is added, including a selection of detailed photographs. Tugworld Review is presented in full colour throughout and incorporates a ‘News Review’ of interesting items from the towage and salvage industries.
