Innovatum innovation back at Seawork
Submagnetix, a division of Innovatum, the UK supplier of magnetic submarine cable and pipeline detection systems, focused on its innovative inshore cable survey system for the marine energy industry at Seawork this year.
The company, which was back for its second year at Seawork, said that the system can significantly cut the cost of survey work in the marine energy industry.
Sarah from Innovatum told MJ, “We have had some good enquiries at Seawork again this year, which we find is a great value show as we get to talk to a lot of people over the three days. There is a lot to be said for face to face contact. The show this year continued to raise our profile within the marine community.”
The Smartrak 9 system cleverly integrates the compact Saab Seaeye Falcon ROV to create a small and rapidly mobilised package for surveying inshore and coastal cables and pipelines. It can sense cables carrying either AC or DC current and cables carrying no current or signal, and also steel pipelines.
The Smartrak 9 equipment includes three small rack units, one for the ROV controller, the second for the cable tracker and acoustics unit and the third for the navigation and event logger.
Especially suited to the wind farm and telecomms industries, the system has also been used to survey the oil pipeline system from Russia to Germany, in the Baltic Sea for arms disposal, and for archaeological surveys where magnetometry is needed to survey finds and wrecks on the seabed.
At the close of Seawork this year the company said that it had received interest from a Scottish shipowner with regard to a future partnership for survey work and personnel needs. The two companies will continue contact in the future.
And it wasn’t just the products that were on offer at the Innovatum stand this year, the free beer from the neighbouring Morland brewery just down the road from the company’s base in Bury St Edmonds certainly went down well too.
