Two Turkish built tugs sold to the UAE

Named Sea Eagle and Sea Falcon, the tugs were built to a design by Cintranaval-Defcar of Spain to undertake shiphandling at LNG terminals, harbour towing, escort services, towage at sea, fire fighting, oil recovery and pollution control operations.
Sea Eagle and Sea Falcon, formerly Bogazici 9 and ex-Bogazici 8 respectively, are classed Bureau Veritas I +Hull, Escort Tug, Unrestricted Navigation, Fire Fighting Ship / Water Spraying, +Mach AUT-UMS, Clean Ship and are now registered under the flag of St. Vincent and Grenadines. The sister tugs measure 32.5m in length overall with a beam of 11.7m, a depth of 5.6m and a 4.30m draft.

Both vessels are powered by twin Caterpillar 3516B-HD turbocharged main engines, each developing 2,100 bkW each at 1,600 rpm for a total of 5,630 bhp. Power is transmitted to Schottel SRP 1515 fully azimuthing propulsion units with 2,600mm diameter four blade controllable pitch propellers. The tugs have a bollard pull of 65 tons and are expected to achieve a maximum free running speed of 13 knots in calm weather.

Electrical power is generated by two 150kW powered Caterpillar auxiliary alternators and one 69kW emergency/harbour set.

Sea Eagle and its sister are fitted with a hydraulically driven Plimsoll combined anchor and towing winch on the foredeck. The winch is suitable for shiphandling and escort duties has a single ‘split’ drum along with two warping heads and the usual chain lifters. Line pull is rated at 80 tons and brake holding load 200 tons. A second Plimsoll towing winch, with twin drums, a line pull of 65 tons and brake load of 130 tons, is located on the after deck. A 70 tons SWL quick release tow hook, tow pins and a stern roller are also provided.

Both tugs are FiFi I rated and came equipped with twin water/foam monitors, each delivering 1,200 cu/m of water per hour.Integral tanks have capacities to accommodate 250 cu/m of fuel, 53 cu/m of fresh water,
70 cu/m of ballast and 25 cu/m of foam compound.
The vessels are specially designed for three man operation during towage duties in harbour and coastal waters but have air conditioned accommodation for a maximum of up to 10 persons in two single, two double and one four berth cabins.
No information is yet available as to where these vessels are to be employed.
