Royal launch for Macduff’s new design office

The purpose designed two storey office was commissioned by the company to meet increasing demands on its services and to allow for expansion.

Featuring, on the ground floor, a reception area, board room/meeting room, kitchen, large storage area and wash places, the first floor is predominately an open plan design office with work stations featuring the latest hardware and software for ship design. Overlooking Macduff harbour are an additional two management offices. The size and layout of the new office allows for additional staff to be recruited.

Since its inception in March 1993 Macduff Ship Design has expanded steadily and consolidated to become one of the most prolific marine consultancies in the commercial and fishing vessel sectors. The company’s personnel have considerable experience in the marine industry, with many successful vessels of all sizes and types sailing around the coasts to testify to this. The personnel have a combined total of over 200 years involvement in the industry.

Initially the core business of the company was the design of new fishing vessels for both the UK and Irish fishing fleets and Macduff was a market leader. However the company realised that the volume of work from the fishing industry would diminish due to severe restrictions forced on the fleet and therefore embarked on a programme to develop a range of tugs and workboats in 2003.

The company received its first tug order in 2005 from Perth and Kinross Council and this was quickly followed by another order from Peterhead Harbour.

This was the start of the company’s success in the tug and workboat market and very soon export orders were being received from Singapore, Malaysia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and France. New designs are currently under construction in six different countries.

Macduff provides ship owners and ship builders with complete design and engineering/outfitting drawing packages, including cutting information and all stability calculations, ensuring a smooth build period.
