New Suzuki technology showcased at Seawork

Suzuki will be bringing new outboard models and new outboard technology to the commercial boating sector at this year’s Seawork.

Suzuki Selective Rotation enables the manufacturer to combine standard and counter rotation operation into the same outboard.

In January Suzuki launched its new DF20A and DF15A portable outboard motors and both models will be on display at Seawork. Small, compact, lightweight and fuel-efficient, these new models are ideal for use on small safety and rescue craft.

They are the first outboards in their class to feature battery-less Electronic Fuel Injection, which means that they can also benefit from Suzuki’s Lean Burn fuel control technology.

In addition to these two new models, Suzuki has also recently upgraded its flagship model, the DF300AP. This powerful 4.2 litre V6 outboard, which is already popular with commercial operators, now features a world first in outboard technology, Suzuki Selective Rotation.

This new technology enables Suzuki to combine standard and counter rotation operation into the same outboard. This is done by switching an electronic circuit to change the gear-shift mode and adding a counter rotation propeller.

In counter rotation mode the power is transmitted through the reverse gear, which has been upgraded and improved to give it the same characteristics as the forward gears. In fact, the specifications and materials used for forward and reverse gears have both been optimised, as well as improving the layout of the bearings. There is no longer any need to buy a dedicated counter rotation outboard.

The significance of Suzuki’s new DF300AP with Suzuki Selective Rotation was recognised with an NMMA Award for Innovation at the recent Miami International Boat Show.
