Turnkey survey solutions in boat package
OceanDTM of Lowestoft, Suffolk UK, has teamed with Isle of Wight based boatbuilders Cheetah Marine to offer a 7.2m catamaran equipped with a fully calibrated and motion-compensated WASSP multibeam sounder for less than £150,000 as part of a series of affordable turnkey survey packages featuring a range of vessels and equipment.
Using RTK (real-time kinematic) GPS and Olex software, the company says that with the combination it will be possible to acquire tidally corrected data to the right datum in real-time without any processing. It adds that there is also the capability to use the RTK to correct for heave, so providing a cost effective solution for motion correction with low cost motion reference units or sensors.
Acquisition of high quality seabed data in a simple and cost effective way is alternatively possible for just £19,200 with autonomous use of a WASSP WMP160F multibeam sounder and an Olex plotter. Produced by Electronic Navigation of Auckland, New Zealand, the sounder covers an area of around four times water depth in a single pass. A vessel operating in 30m of water can therefore typically map a 3D track of seabed over 100m wide in one go at speeds of 15 knots, it is claimed.
