Propellers provide major thrust for Alfredo

A 60m long, 2200 gt motor barge, the Alfredo is equipped for international navigation and is built to provide offshore support activities for companies engaged in oil and gas exploration, marine construction work, or in deepsea floating platform work.

This particular vessel required a propulsion system capable of generating maximum thrust. Despite design speed of only 12 knots, its ‘special purpose’ characteristics demanded high propulsion efficiency.

The ship, built by Victoria Shipyard in Adria for LMD Dredging and Maritime Works, is equipped for carrying heavy loads on deck. The two propulsion engine rooms are independent of one another to allow for full redundancy of the vessel should one engine fail.

Eliche Radice found the solution to this design challenge by defining all the details of the propulsion system, constructing the shaft lines and fixed pitch propellers in such a way as to grant continuous service even with one of the engine rooms completely non-functional.
