Cable route survey for MMT
MMT of Sweden has been awarded a contract by Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission (SHE Transmission) for a high voltage direct-current (HVDC) cable re-route survey from Shetland to Caithness on the Scottish mainland.
Studies are being used to determine water depth and sediment structure in addition to identification of seabed features and obstructions. Data will also be acquired for environmental and archaeological assessments.
The contract also covers collection of geophysical, geotechnical and environmental data along new re-routing sections. MMT’s specialist survey vessel, Seabeam, will carry out nearshore surveys while its companion ship, Franklin, will be used for offshore areas. Together with data collected during previous survey campaigns, a combined corridor of between 1,000m and 3,500m in width will be presented along the length of the route.
The new contract work represents a continuation of studies originally undertaken by MMT (then known as Marin Matteknik AB) in 2008 and 2010 for an earlier design route which was subsequently found to be unsuitable for cable laying.
