Dutch explore LNG as short sea fuel

In the project LNG for Short Sea Shipping, several scenarios will be developed comparing three options for alternative fuel for heavy fuels: to switch to gas oil, natural gas or after-treatment systems for exhaust gas emissions. Then it will investigate which option in which scenario is technically, operationally and economically the most attractive. The parties plan to share and exchange knowledge within the consortium and opportunities to further develop LNG as a transport fuel for in the maritime sector.

The project LNG for Short Sea Shipping is supported from by TKI Gas and the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. The Dutch research organisation CMTI and several members of Holland Shipbuilding Association are participating in the project, which was launched in early 2013 and will be completed within two years.
