New Hyundai SeasAll engine debut at Seawork

The company is relatively new to the marine market but is determined to respond to consumer’s demands for more affordable, more efficient and quieter running propulsion units for marine craft.

Hyundai SeasAll has plans for several new products to be launched over the next 18 months, starting with the L500 12.7 litre six cylinder engine, rated for uninterrupted and unlimited use at full power. The new engine is suitable for semi-displacement commercial vessels and pleasure craft and will receive its UK debut at Seawork.

UK and Ireland distributor for Hyundai SeasAll is engine, generator and gearbox specialist, WaterMota whose technical sales manager, Tony Fryer, explained that while the new technology is proving popular with customers, the unsophisticated Doosan engine is still holding its own with increased sales of Doosan’s larger horsepower engines, with numerous orders placed this year.

Mr Fryer said: “These larger engines, particularly the 4V222TI and the 4V158TI are very well liked with our customers. We’ve sold more of these this year than I’ve ever known. We’re making great inroads into the wind farm support market, an area which traditionally our competitors supplied.

“Customers are coming back to buying more cost effective engines. We’ve got a very healthy order book for both larger horsepower engines and for smaller ones and are looking to increase our turnover again this year.”

Larger engines delivered recently by WaterMota include two 4V222TIH for MacDuff Shipyards, two 4V222TIL for Coastal Charters, two 4V222TIM for Almaritech, and a V158 TIH for Ocean Fish.

WaterMota has also supplied three new generator engines for Red Funnel IoW Ferries for Red Falcon to replace the previous engines. The Doosan AD126TI prime movers are again simple, unsophisticated engines with a conventional fuel system, with electronic governing for the parallel operation required on the ferry.

The Hyundai’s new SeasAll L – Series Electronic Unit Injection system delivers 500 PS and 232kg/m of torque from the 12.7 litre in-line 6 cylinder engine. The robustly designed unit was specifically conceived as a heavy duty engine with the ability to serve the professional and commercial market. It has stable performance at high load and responds well to sudden load changes.
