‘Fugro Helmert’ launched in Berne
Fugro’s new hydro survey vessel Fugro Helmert was christened and launched last month at the Fassmer Shipyard in Berne.
The 40m offshore and coastal survey vessel will go to work this month following the completion of trials.
The vessel is designed to produce very limited underwater noise excitation when undertaking hydrographic surveys, light geotechnical work, route and site surveys, environmental baseline surveys, pipeline inspections, and work within the renewable energy sector.
The air conditioned vessel will accommodate 12 researchers and has total accommodation for 20 people.
The aft deck, with a total area of some 280m2, is designed to accommodate winches and other equipment in a variety of configurations. A 10 tonnes capacity A-frame can be used to lower a variety of scientific probes and other equipment. There is also a Palfinger PK50002 deck crane with a capacity to handle 3 tonnes at 12m outreach.
For station keeping the vessel is equipped with DP1 to Germanischer Lloyd class notation. Various sounding equipment is placed in a specially designed ‘blister’ by the keel. Including a Kongsberg EM10, Knudsen SBE/SPBs, Innomar SES 2020, HiPAP 500 and an underwater camera. All data is collected and processed in an instrument room and a data processing room, with selected data transferable worldwide via VSAT.
