MCA five year contract awards
Three five year contracts for work under its UK Civil Hydrography Programme (CHP) have been awarded by the Martitime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) to EGS, Gardline Geosurvey and MMT UK.
Commencing last month and focusing on high priority, navigationally significant areas, the Programme is a multi-disciplined data acquisition venture for mapping over 720,000 km2 of seabed around the UK. It entails state of the art bathymetric surveys, geotechnical sampling, in-situ oceanographic monitoring and detailed 3-D object/wreck investigations. EGS will be responsible for routine re-surveys of navigationally critical areas while Gardline Geosurvey undertakes shallow water operations and MMT UK undertakes those for shallow to medium waters down to water depths of 200m.
The MCA says that all the contracts begin with an initial three year programme starting concurrently off the East Anglian coastline, the approaches to the River Humber and within the Land’s End Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS). Additionally, each contract will also support ad hoc call-off work by way of facilitating any rapid response surveys and improved collaboration with other public sector marine data acquisition programmes.
