Torqeedo extends electric propulsion range

The company has now introduced a 40 hp version of its electric outboard and has also expanded into inboard electric propulsion motors.

The 40 hp outboard is based on the same technology as the 80 hp Deep Blue outboard. Indeed, this 40 hp unit can be upgraded to 80 hp by updating the software that controls it and by increasing the battery capacity. As before, Torqeedo has packaged this outboard with its compatible battery pack so that the whole installation package is sold as a complete unit. The battery pack has a capacity of 13 kW/hours.

At 40 hp, this new outboard would make a suitable power unit for a range of small workboats and angling craft that operate in the displacement or semi-displacement mode. The outboard features the unique efficient propeller design developed by Torqeedo.

This new electric outboard now means that Torqueedo can offer a range of electric outboards from 1 hp through to 80 hp. With the addition of the new inboard electric motor range there is an electric unit available to meet many requirements for operators who want to take the greener electric route to marine propulsion.

The new inboard electric motors are the same units that are used in the outboard engines and they are offered in four versions, two based on the 40 hp units and two on the 80 hp unit. Again, these are all basically the same motor but packaged to produce different power outputs. The 40 hp units are available in versions that can operate at 1,500 or 850 rpm and the same speed variations are available with the 80 hp motor. They are packaged as a unit complete with control box and mounted on a subframe that in turn is mounted on flexible mounts.
