Three channel Lidar system launched
Airborne Hydrography AB (AHAB) of Jonkoping, Sweden, has launched what it claims to be the world’s first three channel Lidar (light detection and ranging) system, Hawkeye III.
It is a combined airborne bathymetric and topographic multi-sensor system with dual bathymetric channels and a single topographic one.
The system provides a full seafloor search with no limitation for shallow depths and is therefore capable of providing seamless datasets in transition zones from seabed to land. Using AHAB’s Oblique lidar technology for illuminating objects from multiple angles while minimising shadowing in data, superior object detection on land and in water is possible, the company says.
AHAB’s UK partner is Newport based Pelydryn whose recent projects have included lidar-type surveys using earlier Hawkeye systems in the South Pacific and Malta.
