Torqeedo expanding electric range

The original Torqeedo range comprised a series of low horsepower electric outboards but they made a dramatic impact on the market when the company introduced the Deep Blue range of outboards two years ago at METS. The 80 hp unit was a game changing development in the electric propulsion market.

Since then Torqedo has gone on to introduce an inboard version of the 80 hp unit, which was shown at METS last year. This year will see the introduction of the 40 hp outboard with matching inboard engine units. In addition to offering the electric engines, Torqeedo offers a complete range of battery installation and control units, offering builders a complete electric propulsion package ready for installation.

Announcing the new 40 hp unit, the UK sales manager for Torqeedo said: “With the new 40 hp Deep Blue outboard only one high voltage battery is required, saving money, weight and space in the boat. The fact that it is naturally more environmentally friendly and forward thinking as well as being much quieter than a petrol motor is a huge bonus”.

The Torqeedo electric propulsion systems are finding applications in both the leisure and the commercial workboat sector. In the leisure sector electric propulsion is being increasingly used, with an estimated 40,000 electric boats now in the water worldwide, whilst in the commercial sector many harbour and marina operators are finding that electric propulsion can be used to expand their environmental credentials and still provide an effective harbour service.
