Kudos for Voith propellers
The Siem Moxie (see May’s vessel launch) winning the Offshore Renewables Award at the 2014 Offshore Support Journal Conference, is great news for Voith Turbo because it’s equipped with Voith Schneider Propellers (VSP).
Siem Offshore’s new infield support vessel (ISV) is the first to have an X-Bow design fitted with Voith Schneider Propellers. It is equipped with two VSP 28 arranged in the stern, each with a propulsion power of 1,850kW.
The VSPs will not only propel the 79 by 17m vessel, but will also be used for active roll stabilisation and dynamic positioning of the vessel within a windfarm. The short VSP response times allow safe operation even in the immediate vicinity of offshore structures.
This latest award is the fourth accolade for a vessel equipped with VSP since 2012.
