Eleven models now available from JCB

The expansion of the range, which now runs from 55kW / 74hp to 129kW / 173hp with torque outputs up to 750Nm, makes the engines suitable for a large variety of applications from heavy duty fishing to workboats, with the smaller engines particularly suitable for the grant funded repower market.

All the engines comply with a minimum of stage two emissions with the majority complying with stage 3B – tier 4 interim.

The TCAE range is based on the JCB Dieselmax 444 HPCR turbocharged and intercooled engine using an advanced combustion system which provides low in cylinder emissions.

“The JCB Dieselmax engine range has been designed to give operators great performance and by expanding the range we are able to offer engines for an even wider choice of uses,” said Julian Osborne, sales executive of Mermaid Marine, the sole UK mariniser of the JCB engines. “While relatively young in the diesel engine market, the JCB Dieselmax is fast establishing itself as a significant player.”

The engines have an indirect cooling system incorporating a high capacity heat exchanger and gear driven raw water pump with freshwater cooling via a self adjusting Poly Vee belt driven centrifugal water pump which is pressurised and thermostatically controlled.

“JCB does provide a lot of engine for the money,” said Mr Osborne. “They are very cost-effective. The engines incorporate the latest technological advances to provide high torque at low engine speeds with favourable fuel consumption with the design also taking future emission requirements into account.”

And he explained that the engines are billed as the fastest and cleanest diesel engine range in the world, reaching Stage 3B – Tier 4 interim – anti pollution standards without any particle filters or after-treatment of exhaust gases.

The treatment of emissions at source saves in weight allowing the engine to fit into smaller spaces; fuel savings of between 5 – 10% are also achieved compared to previous JCB engines.

“JCB has invested many millions of Euros into developing its new combustion system,” Mermaid Marine sales executive Malcolm Pratt explained. “It’s probably the cleanest engine on the market with no after treatment needed for the exhaust which is a big advantage.”

An optional heavy duty power take-off is also available for running hydraulic equipment such as pot haulers or bow thrusters.

The JCB engine has been configured to share the same footprint as old Ford engines making repowers easier.
